Padinharkkara

Mohammed Saleem Padinharkkara is a first generation immigrant from India, who is running a successful technology company in Canada. Saleem has been a mentor to many new immigrants and wholeheartedly believes in the multicultural fabric of Canada. Canada is a land of opportunities and he believes in paying it forward. He is a co-founder of CCIM, Canadian Council of Indian Muslims an advocacy organization for Indian Muslims in Canada and Moplah Games, an annual sports tournament conducted within the Malayali Muslim community to better integrate them into the Canadian society. Saleem is very passionate about eradicating homelessness and hopes to make a contribution toward reducing it within the GTA area in his lifetime.

Objective

The MAX scholarship for journalism is intended to encourage young Canadian Muslims to expand the narrative in mainstream journalism. To fearlessly bring forward their unique perspective, voice and talent to the Canadian and international community.

Applications Close: April 15th, 2020

1. Self-identify as a Muslim
2. Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person within the meaning of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
3. Have attained an overall average of 80% or higher from University/College, calculated from a valid transcript
4. Be enrolled at a recognized post-secondary institution in Journalism as of September 2019
